Building Homes, Building Hope… Our Impact in Communities

A place to call home is more than just a solid roof overhead. Through Habitat, hardworking families and individuals locked out of the conventional housing market are given access to affordable housing that helps families dig deep roots into a community. Through hard work, our partner families are invested in the homes they build; pay back their mortgages monthly, helping us build more homes; and pay taxes annually, adding to the health and wealth of the greater community. With a solid foundation, families thrive, and everyone benefits – from cities to schools to the volunteers who help make it happen.

If you’ve been on one of our build sites, you’ve witnessed the power of people coming together, swinging hammer, sweating in the heat or laughing in the cold, working side by side to forge something lasting and good. There is a real joy in the work, and hope rises up when friends and neighbors give their time and talents and support each other.

As of 2011, St. Croix Valley Habitat has:

-Partnered with 48 families, who have built and purchased an affordable home through Habitat;

-Provided stable homes for over 80 adults and 160 children; During the 2011 build season alone, 22 people (8 adults and 14 kids) found safe, secure housing through Habitat.

-Partnered with longtime sponsors to build affordable homes and invest in community. Our Thrivent partners have sponsored 10 homes through the Thrivent Builds program.

-Supported Habitat for Humanity’s international efforts by contributing an annual tithe of 10% of our proceeds to build homes across the globe. Our contributions to the Fund for Humanity have built 36 Homes worldwide, including: Mexico, Egypt, Tanzania, Guatemala, Kenya, Jordan, Bolivia, Paraguay, El Salvador, Fiji and Haiti. -Led the field of green building and sustainable community development with our model neighborhood in River Falls, WI: the Eco Village. An 18-unit community that meets the highest standards in the building industry for energy efficiency, land use and occupant health – learn more about the Eco Village here [link to Eco Village Page].

-Given back to the communities we build in – Habitat Homeowners pay, on average $2,400 per year in property taxes, contributing over $80,000 per year to their cities and townships across the counties!
