The Latest Eco Village News:
Net-Zero energy is really catching on! Walgreens stores recently announced their push to make their stores the flagships of green, sustainable building, and are working closely with our Anchor Partners CalStar Products to bring their plans to life. Check out the Walgreens facebook feed on the project - and notice the wonderful recognition they give our Eco Village project on their site. thanks for the "shout-out," Walgreens!


We (Heart) Logistics! Team UPS came out in full force to volunteer - tackling siding and other construction projects at the site! Our thanks to these intrepid volunteers - the first of many church, civic, corporate, fraternal and community groups that will push Phase II of the Eco Village forward this year! Lending a fresh perspective on the Eco Village project, students from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls Studio Photography class have been out on the work site, capturing some really, really beautiful shots of volunteers in action. Their work will be on display in the UWRF library gallery soon, but the online gallery is up and running: Click Here for a preview of some of the incredible shots they're coming up with.

A big thanks to our first ever group of Care-A-Vanner volunteers. These intrepid RV road warriors travel the countryside, performing good deeds on Habitat sites and contributed 2 solid weeks of construction help at the Eco Village this September. May 2012 Site Preparation Begins!

Infrastructure work has begun on site! Our infrastructure contractor, Zappa Brothers', has mobilized and is prepping the site for the build season. The skilled lens of our volunteer photographer, David Babcock has been capturing the progress. Within months, the former snowpile site will be transformed into the raw material for our sustainable neighborhood. Eco Village brings some big improvements to the Westside Neighborhood - A brand new, hard surface Apollo Road, incredible erosion mitigation measures, and a storm water management system that includes rain gardens, rain barrels and water cisterns, pervious pavement and pavers, and a retention pond. April 2012 - Eco Village Boosts River Falls' Growing Green Reputation

Siemen's and the US Chamber of Commerce Recently Honored the City of River Falls, WI as one of the top 3 sustainable communities in the nation. Key to that success? A LEED certified City Hall, a comprehensive sustainability plan at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, and of course, the groundbreaking work of the Eco Village neighborhood and St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity. April 2012 Final City Approval of the Eco Village

The Eco Village project is poised to begin after final approval of the development plans were approved by the planning commission and City Council early April. A great addition to a wonderful city, the Eco Village is reclaiming and restoring donated land, and adding a showcase of responsible development right in the heart of River Falls.
